Company values – make them countFebruary 19, 2021 11:02 am
Do you have your company values pinned down?
Many websites now have a page listing company values. Some choose singular words like ‘innovation’. Others go for a full paragraph. The wrong way to go about it is to just choose some words because there’s a website deadline, and someone thought a values page would be a good idea. The right way is to think about what you want your company to stand for. So start by asking some questions:
- What’s important to you?
- What brings you together?
- What guides you when facing tough decisions?
- What do you like about what you do as a company and how you do it?
- What parts are you proud of?
Then refine this further with more:
- Will we still believe this in 5 years? 10 years?
- Is this a basis you’d hire and fire on?
- Can you apply it to customer relations? A product? Internal development? All of that?
Often, you already have some principles and a culture to work from to help come up with your values. But don’t just put them on your website, live them. You can always revisit and refine your values as you grow.
