I find this such an inspiring and positive quote. It makes me think about the value a great mentor has on us. It could be an amazing teacher at school, a sports coach or a relative – when we look back at our successes in life and work, there are often people we can thank for helping us achieve our goals.
I’ve been setting up a mentoring programme for JMC Partners and it’s highlighted for me a real gap in my industry. Few recruitment firms offer mentoring. So I looked into the benefits and found some interesting statistics.
- 71% of Fortune 500 firms have a mentoring scheme.
- 89% of mentors will go on to mentor others
- 97% with a business mentor say mentors are valuable
- Mentees are promoted 5 times more often than those without mentors
- Only 37% have a mentor
A mentor is a long-term investment, but one that’s proven to improve productivity, staff retention and innovation. I’m a fan and I’d love to see more mentorship programmes in recruitment.
