The Good Ones Win at Work in the EndOctober 14, 2020 1:57 pm
Who is more likely to succeed at work, the Good ones or the bad ones?
Someone who is deceitful, manipulative and hostile? Or someone who is generous, trustworthy and nice? You know, the good ones.
So the news is the good ones win in the end. That’s according to a 14-year study by the US National Academy of Sciences.
They studied 671 volunteers from college to 14 years later and conducted a range of tests, including quizzing their coworkers. Researchers found that any career advantage gained through being aggressive was cancelled out by their failure to work well with others.
The conclusion was that power-hungry, hostile people weren’t any quicker at gaining positions of power than those who were nice. And once at the top, they made for poor CEOs who were more likely to create a toxic work culture and drive their companies to failure.
So if you want to have a successful career, remember kindness wins! That probably includes getting the coffee order in now and then.
